Beer…much more than a breakfast drink

I’m always amazed by the view of beer as nothing more than a fuel source for frat parties and the root of many embarrassing photographs. While I can’t deny the very real negative consequences of beer (or anything put into the hands of this man), the remarkable history of beer can’t be denied. Here are a few highlights to start spreading the truth:

The first known food purity law deals with the making of beer: Reinheitsgebot (Someone should tell the makers of the Great Belgium Lager that rice is not on this list).

Louis Pasteur one of the most recognized biochemists began his scientific career by investigating ‘the diseases of beer’.

Saccharomyces cerevisiae or brewer’s yeast is used as a model species to investigate many important biological principles including  the cell cycle and as a tool for studying protein interactions.
